There are plans to increase the amount of time waste can be deposited at an Island landfill site.
The Department of Infrastructure wants to extend the time permitted for refuse to be dumped at Wright's Pit North beyond current licence conditions which expire on December 31.
Infrastructure Minister, Tim Baker MHK, told the House of Keys last week a process to find another site for special construction and demolition waste such as asbestos and fibreglass had been unsuccessful.
He also told members the DOI is continuing to work with planning officials to make sure Wright's Pit North can continue operating as an interim alternative.
The Wright’s Pit North facility forms part of a complex of closed landfill sites at the Point of Ayre - the department will continue to take groundwater samples in the area to monitor and report on the environmental impact of current and historic landfilling.
