Plans have been approved to build a drive-through KFC at the former Eurocars site on Peel Road, despite concerns over traffic and public health.
A Starbucks and another retail unit is also included as part of the application, which was approved by the planning committee this week (11 Nov).
Representatives from Ballakermeen High School and government’s Public Health Directorate appeared before planners to object to what’s proposed.
Headteacher Adrienne Burnett warned the fast food outlet would be ‘like a magnet for students’.
An assessment by Highways Services, described as ‘one of the most comprehensive ever done for an application’, found the development would have an ‘acceptable’ impact on traffic.
A number of planning conditions on parking, tree management, and flood protection were also approved.
