Keeping a number of rural telephone boxes in operation on the Island isn't economically sustainable.
That's according to Manx Telecom which is planning to decommission six boxes - including five traditional red ones.
An online petition has been set up campaigning against their removal - it wants to create a community function for the iconic boxes instead, turning them into libraries or tourist information points.
Marketing director David Smith says the mounting costs of the telephones outweigh the benefits:
