Petition launched to save branches of IOM Bank

A petition has been launched to save two bank branches which are set to close next year.

Yesterday, Isle of Man Bank announced its Peel and Castletown branches will close their doors on January 7, 2021, saying the change is down to making 'further investments in digital banking' with more and more turning to online services.

The bank adds this change in branch footprint will also mean a number of voluntary redundancies but insists it's working with colleagues and trade unions to support those affected by the changes.

Meanwhile, those behind the petition say both branches are a lifeline for the likes of the elderly who don't use electronic banking.

They add that both are essential for both local residents and businesses, and that there are many who may not be able to drive or have medical issues which could affect their ability to travel to another branch.

So far, more than 480 people have signed the petition.
