A pensioner's been banned for drink-driving after going for a Christmas meal.
Samuel Joseph Boyd of Mount View Road in Onchan appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
The 77-year-old admitted drink-driving on December 22 at Hillberry in Onchan.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the hearing police spotted Boyd in a Suzuki Jimny driving very slowly towards Douglas, and stopped his vehicle at around 2.30pm.
They could smell alcohol on his breath and at police headquarters testing equipment showed he was more than one and a half times over the limit.
He told police he'd had just over a pint of strong lager with a meal at the Creg ny Baa before driving home.
Mrs Hughes told him she was left incredulous that somebody would ignore the annual police campaign and drink-drive during the festive period.
She fined him £1,400 and ordered him to pay £125 costs.
He was also banned from driving for two years, and will have to complete a rehabilitation course and pass an extended driving test before he can have his licence back.
