A man who threw his girlfriend to the floor and choked her for ten seconds has been banned from contacting her for a year.
Michael Hussain Baker of Ballagyr Lane in Peel appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to one charge of common assault at the home he shared with his partner on October 17.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court the former soldier got into an argument with his girlfriend over music she was playing, and turned violent at around 7pm – after the attack, she messaged her daughter to call police because she was scared to dial 999 in front of him.
After he was arrested, he told police she’d attacked him and he was acting in self defence.
Magistrates put him on probation for six months and imposed a 21-month restraining order as well as ordering unemployed Baker to pay £125 costs.
