Pedestrian dies after being released from Noble's Hospital

A female pedestrian who was struck by a car earlier this month and released from hospital last week has died.

Police have confirmed her as 37-year-old Christine Collister.

At the time of the incident a blue Renault Clio travelling towards Pulrose Bridge, collided with Mrs Collister who was walking within the cycle lane with her son, towards the Ellan Vannin Gymnastic Club.

The collision caused her to be knocked over a small embankment and into the river beside the road but her son and the occupants of the Clio vehicle were not injured.

Mrs Collister suffered serious leg injuries and had to be rescued from the river. She was treated at Noble’s prior to being released late last week.

But sadly, Mrs Collister, who lived in Douglas, died on Friday.

Inspector Terry Stephen said it’s too early to attribute Mrs Collister’s death to the collision on November 8, but they’re now investigating the circumstances of that collision in detail.

He added: "At the time of the collision, we believe that several people were coming and going from the both the Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club and the FA facilities at the Bowl.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to anybody who thinks they saw the collision or the Renault Clio car being driven on the access road prior to the collision.

"If anyone thinks they can help with our enquiries they are requested to contact Police Headquarters on 631212.  In addition I will have Police officers around the location of the collision this coming Tuesday evening in an effort to meet people who may have witnessed events.”

Meanwhile, Mrs Collister's husband Alan has paid tribute to his wife saying: "Christina was a wonderful wife and a loving and devoted mother.

"She touched so many people's lives and had recently started working at Cronk-y-Berry school. She loved her new job and the children, especially those needing a hug, that was the kind of person she was. A great loss."
