Parcels may be hit by customs charges under EU rules

The Post Office says new customs rules for parcels sent to European Union countries will come into force next week.

From Wednesday, July 1, some goods sent to EU destinations may be subject to customs duties, taxes or handling fees set by the destination country, not the Isle of Man.

Any charges will initially be collected from the recipient when the item is delivered, although work is underway to allow senders to pay these costs upfront in the future.

The system changes are expected to be completed by the end of August.

Customers are being urged to make sure recipients are aware that charges may be payable on delivery.
