A local charity is launching a fundraising campaign to ensure poorer countries get a fair share of Covid-19 vaccines.
The One World Centre is kick-starting ‘Jumble for Jabs’ - a campaign to encourage people to hold jumble sales, alongside other fundraising events.
It will start with a jumble sale held by the charity itself at Promenade Methodist Church, Douglas on Saturday, June 5 at 10.30am.
Money raised will be given to the World Health Organisation Foundation’s 'Go Give One' scheme which supports COVAX, an international alliance to buy and supply vaccines to 92 lower income countries.
Many countries are struggling to get off the ground through lack of access to the vaccine or poor infrastructure in the area.
According to the World Health Organisation, at present only 0.3% of vaccine supply is going to low-income countries.
Wendy Shimmin of the One World Centre revealed every £4 provides a vaccine so even small amounts can make a real difference.
