Victims of the Haiti hurricane are being supported by the Rotary Club of Onchan.

The club is asking for donations to help them send 'shelter boxes' to those affected by the severe weather which has caused chaos in the country.

Haiti was hit by an earthquake in 2010 which killed almost 10,000 people and over the past two weeks 1,000 more Haitians have died as a result of the hurricane.

70,000 people are now without homes and there are concerns the country's cholera outbreak could get worse as a result of the devastation.

The shelter boxes provide a heavy duty tent and water filtration equipment as well as household essentials like candles, tin openers and a needle and thread.

Members of the club have raised £1,000 already which will send two shelter boxes but they're urging people to donate so they can send more.

Donations can be made at the Snaefell surgery, or electronic donations can be sent to the Rotary's charity account quoting 'Haiti Appeal' as a reference.
