Businesses are being urged to hang up on cold callers.
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) says it’s had reports of people trying to sell advertising in publications in support of "emergency services or associated charities".
It says legitimate companies do exist, but most are making false claims.
The Office advises to not take unsolicited calls when busy, not agree to something over the phone and not to be pressurised into services that you haven’t agreed to.
Cold calling issues will be raised in the House of Keys tomorrow – Middle MHK Howard Quayle will ask when legislation will be introduced to protect the public from this practice.
