'No remorse' from prisoner who tried to stab guard

A prisoner who tried to stab a prison guard with a makeshift knife last year says he has “no remorse” about the premeditated attack.

33-year-old Christopher Mccluskey lunged at the officer in his cell after he’d escorted him back to the segregation unit on September 9th “brandishing” the improvised weapon.

He managed to retreat safely – Mccluskey was arrested and later told police he’d planned the assault after the guard stopped him from hugging his family during a prison visit.

The weapon, which had taken him two days to construct from a plastic knife and razor blades, had been hidden in a book in his cell - he told police if he had the opportunity “he’d do it again”.

At Douglas Courthouse today he admitted one charge of affray – he’ll be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery and will next appear there on March 4th
