Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston says his department doesn't know how many people have had to pay to have fibre broadband installed.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse asked a question for written reply about how many people had contributed towards the costs in the last five years, and whether he though prices were fair.
Mr Johnston said the Department for Enterprise doesn't track the information and so couldn't say how much it had cost customers.
But he said the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority oversees how much profit Manx Telecom can make on its capital investment each year, but doesn't directly regulate retail pricing.
