No immediate plans for MGP name change

The Economic Development Minister has said no firm decision has been reached about the possibility of changing the name of The Manx Grand Prix.

Asking the question, Douglas North MHK John Houghton, was referring to plans to change the name to the Classic TT.

Speaking about the controversial proposals to re-vamp the Grand Prix Minister Shimmin said any consideration for a new name of the event will occur at the appropriate time.

The Minister also allayed any fears racing enthusiasts may have had about the future of the pre-tt Classic races run by the Southern 100 Club.

He said he is content with the current arrangement, which sees the event funded by his Department.
