The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says it doesn't collect data on Halal slaughter at the Island's meat plant.
A Freedom of Information request asked how many sheep are slaughtered through the method, and how many sheep are exported off the Island.
In its response, the department said it doesn't hold the data, but suggested Isle of Man Meats might have the information.
But it said because the organisation isn't covered by FOI laws, the person asking the question would have to contact it directly.
