Treasury Minister Alex Allinson says he doesn't know how many people were paid minimum wage last year - or how much they contributed in tax and National Insurance.
This week in the House of Keys he faced questions from Arbory, Malew and Castletown MHK Jason Moorhouse on the topic.
Dr Allinson said people don't give that information in their tax returns and so it's impossible to know.
But he added it was possible to calculate what people would have paid from their wages:
