A new joint partnership is aiming to protect and promote the vital resources of the Manx countryside.
This week, Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) signed a Memorium of Understanding with the Manx National Farmers Union (MNFU) this week, with the aim of work together in matters around the Island’s environment and wildlife conservation.
Among the other key objectives of the partnership are championing local produce and the importance of countryside education in schools and in sustainable farming practices.
MNFU President, Tim Johnston, says: "We want a wider recognition of the importance of the environment, of wildlife and issues around climate change.
"As the major land managers on the Island, we are keen to work with others to make that a success which is underpinned by a viable future for Manx agriculture".
Meanwhile, MWT says it's keen to work with all farmers and other organisations across the Isle of Man to champion conservation and look at ways in which wildlife and the environment can support other sectors.
The organisation's Chief Executive, Leigh Morris, added: "This is a real opportunity for the Island, for conservation and farming to come together and do more for 88% of our land."
"Clearly there are going to be situations where we don’t agree and it’s important that this MoU recognises that - but pragmatically, and for the greater good of the Island - particularly under the Biosphere status, it’s important for us to be able to work together more closely."
