New Manx law protects vulnerable thresher sharks

The government's granted new legal protections for thresher sharks.

New legislation makes it an offence to deliberately catch, harm or kill the species in Manx waters.

It's part of an international convention to protect wildlife, which the Island is signed up to.

Thresher sharks, which are listed as a vulnerable species, have been seen feeding on fish in the sea around the Island during summer.
