The government says new laws will make it easier for the Fire and Rescue Service to charge for false alarms, hoax calls and attending events.
The Treasury (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill is currently going through stages in parliament.
Charging for fire alarms is managed through individual contracts, but the legislation will mean the service can charge for false automatic fire alarm calls.
The government says that'll only happen as a last resort after discussions, engagement, education, and improvement efforts.
