New government regulations strengthening protections for children in part-time work have come into force today, Wednesday, April 1.
The updated rules set limits on working hours, with a minimum employment age of 13 and a weekly cap of 28 hours.
Children are restricted from hazardous roles including high-risk kitchen environments, or selling door to door.
The government says new laws also means youngsters can't work before 7am, and are entitled to fixed breaktimes.
