The Manx government could get new powers to take control of struggling gas companies in an emergency.
The Energy Bill 2022, which is progressing through the House of Keys, passed its second reading on Tuesday.
It's been introduced in the context of abnormally high global energy prices.
Environment Minister Clare Barber said the legislation "strengthens government's power to intervene" and would also make sure the island's gas supply is maintained.
