New Improved Vaccine Available For Children
A vaccination is to be offered to Children across the Island which will see them immunised against a number of viruses and infections.
The vaccine is being introduced in line with the UK, it’s thought it will be a better alternative to existing immunisation jabs.
The existing vaccine called Prevenar 7 offers protection against 7 types of illness, the new one offers protection against 13, it’s 70% effective in preventing disease caused by blood stream infection.
The vaccine kills the bacteria which causes diseases including pneumonia and meningitis.
It’s given in 3 doses, one at 2,4 and 14 months, there will be no change in the way the new one is administered.
