New legislation would create an education system 'fit for the future'.
That's according to Education Minister, Graham Cregeen MHK, as the new Education Bill - the first major legislation of its type in nearly 20 years - got its first reading in the House of Keys yesterday.
The proposed rules are aiming to address issues such as regulating home education, school catchment areas, inappropriate use of social media along with school and pre-school inspections.
If approved, the bill - which was subject to a large public consultation last year - would replace the current Education Act 2001 which came into force in 2004.
