Members of Nautilus International, the trade union representing officers working at the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, have voted to strike.
They were balloted for industrial action following threats of fire and rehire if they did not accept changes to their contracts.
81% of those who took parted voted yes to strike action.
The union says the result of the ballot means disruption to Steam Packet services is likely, and will announce plans for action in due course.
In response, the Steam Packet Company is working with stakeholders to ensure contingency plans are in place for maintaining lifeline services to and from the Island.
