Murder trial: Jurors to hear closing speeches

Prosecution and defence counsels are expected to give their closing speeches when proceedings resume tomorrow in the trial of 46-year-old Ian Anderson. 

 

He is accused of murdering 60-year-old Ballabeg man Neil Roberts - the gardener's body was found at Anderson's home on Queen Street in the early hours of December 1st 2013. 

 

Last week the jury heard how Anderson has been diagnosed as having borderline emotionally unstable personality disorder. 

 

Both the psychologist and psychiatrist who assessed him confirmed he hasn't received any treatment for the condition saying it would be heavily reliant on his "motivation to engage". 

 

Jurors were also told Anderson had been placed on suicide watch following his remand in prison - it followed concerns he was planning to overdose on anti-depressant medication.
