Manx Utilities says it's begun the process of installing smart meters in homes.
The electricity provider says customers in Andreas, Ballaugh, Bride, Jurby, Kirk Michael and Sulby, Peel and the west are being contacted.
It's planning to replace 8,000 prepaid key meters with the smart meters, which can be topped up using a mobile app.
And it adds the app can give real-time information about energy consumption.
