Mother urging Island to be ‘sepsis savvy’ after daughter's death

The mother of a teenage girl who died from sepsis says she hopes sharing her story will help save lives on the Isle of Man.

Dee Dee Struthers' daughter Ann died at Noble's Hospital on July 18th 2013 - she had pneumonia and contracted sepsis which caused multi-organ failure; she was 18.

Ann had been unwell for over a week with a slight cough and chest pain - it was only when she became disorientated that doctors admitted her to hospital; 11 days later she died.

Sepsis kills 44,000 people in the UK each year - that equates to 200 on the Island; to raise awareness of it Dee Dee has now become a volunteer for the UK Sepsis Trust:
