Efforts to stop MLCs taking positions within executive government have been 'pushed into the long grass'.
That's the opinion of some MHKs after a Tynwald motion to stop Members of the Legislative Council becoming ministers or departmental members was halted.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper suggested the idea saying he wanted the power to rest with the people and calling for Tynwald to 'start as it means to go on' by ensuring only those elected have that power:
His motion was amended by Douglas North representative David Ashford who claimed the 'status quo' should be maintained until the Lord Lisvane report is discussed in April.
