A motorbike racer from Santon died after his engine seized during a practice session for the Pre-TT Classic Races earlier this year, an inquest has heard.
58 year old Dean Martin of Mount Murray was killed in an incident at Billown dip on May 27.
Coroner of Inquests John Needham heard scrutineers had found no problems with Mr Martin's bike before he set off around the course.
However, an examination of his machine after the crash found what was described as "catastrophic" mechanical failure.
The hearing was told Mr Martin died from massive head and body injuries sustained when he crashed into a wall at 100mph.
Spectators described how the bike had burst into flames and a cloud of smoke obscured the course - leading to a bike behind Mr Martin crashing into and injuring two marshals.
Mr Needham said he was sure race organisers would look into issues raised in the case: including the use of fire extinguishers while bikes were still on the course, and riders not slowing down for yellow flags.
He recorded a verdict of misadventure, saying "he did not suffer, he died extremely quickly doing what he loved to do".
