An MHK says people should still use their heating, after Tynwald voted to allow Manx Gas to put up prices by 27.5 per cent.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse took to Facebook to explain he couldn't say no to the proposal in case gas supplies were turned off.
He says the higher bills won't start arriving through people's letterboxes until after Christmas and the Island's situation isn't as bad as the UK's.
The price increases are expected to affect 23,000 islanders.
But Mr Moorhouse said the bottom line is that people shouldn't be afraid of turning their heating on.
