MHK calls for policy change on existing Police arresting methods

He says an urgent review of procedures needs to take place

Douglas North MHK Bill Henderson has called for a change in policy with regards to existing arresting methods utilised by the Isle of Man Constabulary.

His issue is with the way it’s currently allowed for arrests to be made on people in front of their family, if a warrant has been issued against them.

He argued that in cases where arrests need to be made on people with mental health issues, they are acting as a pseudo Ambulance and crew, which is dangerous for both them and the persons involved.

The member for Social Care also spoke about cases where children have been exposed to the arrests and subsequently not checked to see if they were fit and able to look after themselves.

He says an urgent review of procedures needs to take place to ensure this sort of thing stops.
