A motion will be put forward in Tynwald next week to apply a 20mph speed limit in urban areas.
Bill Shimmins MHK will ask members of the court to approve the rule as well as committing to a maximum of 30mph on narrow rural lanes.
It comes after a separate call from the Isle of Man Cycling Association last month for the same restrictions to be put in place, asking officials to consider 'the impact motor vehicle speed has in putting people off choosing sustainable and healthy travel alternatives.'
Meanwhile, the motion will be considered when Tynwald convenes next Tuesday (July 21) in Douglas from 10.30am.
