Chief MInister Defends MEA Retail Outlets
The viability of the MEA retail outlets was brought into question in the House of Keys this morning as Michael MHK David Cannan asked the Chief Minister if he thinks that electricity consumers should continue to subsidise the business that continues to lose money.
The Chief Minister responded by saying that it’s been a long standing agreement that the Government would subsidise the MEA’s retail outlets in full understanding that they may not be an affective revenue generating source.
He argued their main purpose is to act as an important public service and integral part of the Island’s retail structure.
He also said he would be asking the MEA to provide a break down of their future accounts.
