MGP Festival "must change to ensure future"

There is an overwhelming view that the Manx Grand Prix Festival must change, in order to ensure its long term viability.

That’s according to the Department of Economic Development which has conducted a review of the event.

The review was started in January to establish the level of awareness around the event and the perception of the festival.

According to the department the event has growth potential, but changes must be made in order to generate more commercial income.

It currently costs government more than £1 million a year to stage the MGP Festival, which only brings a return of just over £750,000.

The department has said that online surveys and focus groups have identified a clear opportunity to exploit the strength of the TT brand going forward – however no changes will be made to this year’s event.
