Nearly a year on from its ban on the Island it would appear that Mephedrone is still a real problem on the club scene.
Drugs Advisory Service DASH has said that it continues to be a problem drug on the Island.
It’s made a significant impact on the Island’s drug scene since it’s introduction, becoming one of the most commonly used substances.
Shelley Stanley from DASH told us that since it was banned last April it’s become more of an underground drug, with it’s price rocketing.
Mephedrone is sold as a white powder and is traditionally snorted, although there have been some instances where people have injected it, which can cause major damage to the individual.
The drug is described as being like a mixture of both ecstasy and cocaine, evidence suggests heavy use can lead to paranoia, hallucinations and panic attacks.
DASH attributes the ban to a decline in people coming forward for help, with this in mind they're urging anyone seeking more information about the drug to come forward and contact them.
