The Steam Packet Company says the Manxman will be out of service longer than expected, after maintenance discovered more repairs were needed.
The flagship vessel currently is in drydock for planned work and inspections in Birkenhead.
But the Steam Packet says her delayed return means the Ben-my-Chree and Arrow will both cover the Heysham route.
Managing Director Brian Thomson says doing the work now means the Manxman can provide a reliable and dependable service in future.
