A team of 27 athletes from the Isle of Man Special Olympics team are currently in Athens competing in the World Summer Games.

A group of 27 athletes from the Isle of Man Special Olympics team are currently in Athens competing in the World Summer Games.

They are competing with 7,000 athletes from more than 170 countries around the world in 9 sports including athletics and gymnastics.

We've spoken to Andy Ramage in Athens, secretary of IOM Special Olymics, who told us they are all having a great time and have even been treated to a performance by Stevie Wonder.

So far the team have 2 gold medals, 6 silver and 6 bronze.

There have been violent scenes in Athens as demonstrators took to the streets in protest at the unpopular auserity measures.

He said; 'We are well aware that Athens is very much in the news at the moment, for very different reasons, but please rest assured that the trouble is still fairly well contained in the city centre and well away from the athletes who have so far been unaffected.'
