A Douglas man who broke a man’s jaw the weekend lockdown restrictions were lifted on the Island has been given a suspended jail sentence.
Ethan Lamb of Close Quirk in Douglas appeared before Deemster Cook at the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing after admitting causing grievous bodily harm on June 21, 2020.
The court heard the 22 year old had been involved in a fight on Regent Street in Douglas and landed a single punch on his victim.
However, when members of the public alerted police, officers found the man unconscious with serious head injuries.
Doctors later found he’d suffered two fractures to his jaw and needed surgery and months of recuperation which left him with facial scars.
Lamb initially denied the offence but later changed his plea. Deemster Cook told him street violence was appalling but accepted Lamb had made efforts to turn his life around.
He jailed him for 22 months, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay £500 costs and £2,000 compensation to his victim.
