A man’s admitted a £40,000 Christmas Day break-in at a shop he targeted in 2020.

Michael Daniel Bergquist of Lheannag Park in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

The 47 year old admitted burgling Apple reseller iQ on Prospect Hill in Douglas and five counts of criminal damage to doors and a display cabinet on December 25.

Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the hearing Bergquist smashed his way inside before making off with 66 iPhones – police recovered 11 dropped in the building and 48 in a bin bag nearby.

The court heard in December 2020, Bergquist tried to burgle the same building but left empty-handed after causing £600 worth of damage – he was jailed in May for 21 weeks for the attempted burglary.

Mrs Hughes said Bergquist should be sentenced in the Court of General Gaol Delivery, and remanded him in custody to appear in court again on February 10.
