Man ordered to pay compensation after breaking jaw

A Peel man been ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation after breaking a man's jaw in a pub.

22-year-old Cieron Molyneux was also handed a six-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to one count of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

He was involved in an altercation in the pool room of the Central Hotel in Peel in the early hours of June 14th.

Douglas Courthouse heard how he had initially entered into what was described as "banter" with the victim over the cost of a game - however the conversation turned and became provocative.

Molyneux then threw a single punch; hitting the man in the jaw, which fractured resulting in the man needing surgery.

Defending him, his advocate said alcohol had played a part in the circumstances and the extent of the injury inflicted was not foreseeable.

Sentencing him, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him he had "grossly overreacted" to the verbal provocation. Molyneux was also ordered to pay costs and banned from on-licenced premises for six-months.
