A 58 year old male has been put behind bars for 18 years for sexually abusing his four step children.
The male, who lives in the south of the Island, was convicted of 20 counts of Indecent assault, 9 counts of Buggery and 2 counts of Rape against the 4 victims.
The boy and three girls were aged from 4 to 17 years old when the offences were committed between 1974 and 1984.
Detective Inspector Phil Shimmin said this is undoubtedly the worst case of horrific and sustained sexual abuse upon children he has ever seen.
In sentencing the defendant, Deemster David Turner, QC, described it as a horrifying case and told the defendant he had murdered the childhood of the victims. He said the level of violence, humiliation and degradation inflicted by the defendant shows him to be an evil man who used extreme sexual, physical and emotional violence to exert control over his victims for his own sexual gratification.
The man hasn't been named to protect the victims identities.
