A man caught trying to smuggle cocaine in his rectum on New Year’s Eve has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Craig Phillip Teare of Tramman Rise in Anagh Coar appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse for sentencing.
At an earlier hearing he pleaded guilty to producing 2.9 grammes of the class A drug and possessing it on December 31 at the Sea Terminal in Douglas.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing the 35-year-old appeared nervous and shaking when questioned by police as he got off the ferry from Heysham.
He was arrested and later produced the drugs at Noble’s Hospital.
The court heard he had outstanding fines and hadn’t completed community service imposed for previous offences.
Magistrates jailed him for a total of six months, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay £125 costs.
