A man from Scotland has been jailed after breaching Covid-19 restrictions by travelling to the Island on a jet ski to visit his girlfriend.
28-year-old Dale McLaughlan, from North Ayrshire, travelled for four-and-a-half hours from the Isle of Whithorn to Ramsey last Friday (December 11).
McLaughlan admitted arriving unlawfully on the Island and was jailed for four weeks.
According to the BBC, McLaughlan, of Warrix Avenue in Irvine, arrived in Ramsey at around 1pm that day and then walked another 15 miles to his girlfriend's home in Douglas.
The court heard his girlfriend believed he'd been on the Island working for several weeks.
The next afternoon, he gave a police officer her address as his own and that evening, the couple went to two busy nightclubs.
After identification checks, he was then arrested by Police on Sunday evening.
The BBC adds speaking after the hearing, a government spokesman said following an investigation, public health officials were "satisfied" there was "no wider risk to the public.
