Man caught with cannabis by 'sheer chance'

A Douglas man who was caught with £58 worth of cannabis by 'sheer chance' has been handed a conditional discharge.

Police found 26-year-old Kieron Barsby with the Class B substance on June 18th after calling at his flat on an unrelated matter.

At Douglas Courthouse last week he pleaded guilty to possession of the drug - the prosecutor told the court it wasn't his first encounter with cannabis so the matter had come to court.

A warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to attend court two days earlier - his advocate claimed he'd handed a letter in to excuse himself from attending but it had gone missing.

He said Barsby was a 'relatively young man' who'd done his best to 'free himself' from his negative acquaintances and stop taking cannabis.

Sentencing him Magistrates imposed a 12 month conditional discharge and costs of £125 telling him "we're disappointed to see you reoffending again - you could be jeopardising your future".
