Man caught sending menacing messages bailed

A man caught sending photos of his penis to someone he thought was a 12 year old girl has appeared in court.

Andrew John Shimmin of Viking Road in Douglas appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

He’d previously pleaded guilty to a single charge of sending menacing messages over a telecommunications system between August 10 and 15.

Shimmin was caught by a group of UK paedophile hunters who used a fake Facebook account – the 55 year old messaged her, asking for pictures.

Shimmin was arrested after the messages were made public on social media, and told officers he wasn’t motivated by sex, and had been feeling lonely.

Mrs Hughes adjourned the case and Shimmin was bailed in the sum of £500 to appear in court again on December 17.
