A man who grabbed his girlfriend by the throat after accusing her of cheating on him has been fined.
Michael Joseph Powell of Belmont Terrace in Douglas admitted common assault when he appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The court heard neighbours had dialled 999 after a disturbance at his partner’s home on March 23.
44 year old Powell had argued with her after drinking, becoming verbally abusive before twice grabbing her neck with both hands hard enough to leave marks.
His advocate Darren Taubitz said his client was deeply ashamed of his behaviour and has since sought professional help.
Magistrates fined Powell £500 and ordered him to pay £125 costs.
