A man who’s alleged to have smashed a patio door with his ex-girlfriend’s head has been granted bail.
Michael Kelly of Port e Chee Avenue appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse this week accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Prosecuting, James Robinson said Mr Kelly invited his former partner to his home just before midnight on Tuesday, March 5.
However, he suddenly turned violent and launched an unprovoked attack - grabbing her by the throat and smashing her into the patio door.
As she lay on the floor, he’s alleged to have kicked and punched her, and dragged her back into his home by the hair when she tried to leave.
She eventually managed to escape and fled barefoot to a neighbour, who called the police.
40 year old Mr Kelly, a landscape gardener, was bailed in the sum of £500 on condition he observes a 9pm to 6am curfew, doesn’t buy or consume alcohol, doesn’t contact his victim or any witnesses and only enters Peel to work at the town’s cemetery.
He’ll appear in court again on March 21.
