Man accused of robbing SPAR shop to stand trial

A Willaston man will stand trial after being accused of robbing his local SPAR shop.

26-year-old Steven Johnston was committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery at Douglas Courthouse earlier this week.

He's been charged with two counts of robbery - one at the convenience store on Snaefell Road on January 16th and another of robbing a man in October last year.

During his court appearance he also pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing cocaine after a trace of the Class A drug was found when police searched his home.

There was no application for bail and he was remanded at the Isle of Man Prison until his next court appearance.

Johnston's girlfriend was also committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery to stand trial during the same hearing.

23-year-old Jessie Clare is accused of perverting the course of justice - it's alleged she gave Johnston a false alibi on January 17th; the Willaston woman has been bailed until her next court appearance.
