A Liverpool man heading for the ferry was caught with more than £47,000 in a secret compartment in his car, a court’s heard.
Thomas William Harrison of Java Road in Walton appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas Courthouse.
The 40-year-old is charged with attempting to remove criminal property on February 24, but hasn’t yet entered a plea.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the hearing police stopped Mr Harrison at the Sea terminal at around 7pm and searched his car after noticing he looked extremely nervous.
In a hide under the front passenger seat, they discovered four packages containing £47,530 – he’s said to have asked officers if it was illegal to have the money hidden in his Renault Twingo.
Mr Brooks refused a bail application, and Mr Harrison was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on March 8.
