Listeners slam Next site rejection

The retailer had hoped to open the new large site next to the new Pets at Home and soon-to-be Currys/PC World outlets.

However, authorities denied the company’s application on the grounds the store’s good "weren’t bulky enough” and it potential impact on shopping in Douglas town centre.

Over the weekend we received 40 comments from listeners on our Facebook page and website slamming the reasons put forward for rejecting the application.

Among the issues raised were the loss of potential jobs in the Island, the continuing deterioration of shopping quality here and the sheer lack of sense in denying Next a new site.
